Acupuncture Modalities

Acupuncture: the insertion of fine, filiform sterile needles into acupuncture points, trigger points, or tight bands of fascia(connective tissue). Acupuncture needles are not stiff, or hollow like hypodermic needles. They are super thin, like a strand of hair.

Cupping: is the placement of plastic or glass cups used with suction. The now famous treatment once used on Olympian Michael Phelps, moves local blood and Qi stagnation, and loosens congestion. The most common uses are respiratory conditions, muscle pain, joint pain, and cellulite treatment.

Guasha: is a gentle scraping technique with a smooth jade tool, over a lubricated area of the body to intentionally create therapeutic petechiae called ‘sha’. It used for local muscle pain and stiffness, respiratory conditions, to boost immunity, and to lower a fever.

Electro-acupuncture: is stimulation of acupuncture needles with weak alternating electrical currents. This treatment greatly enhances acupuncture effectiveness. It can help accelerate tissue healing, address acute and chronic pain, helps slow muscle atrophy, and release endorphins (a natural pain and stress fighter).

Auriculotherapy: is the stimulation of specific points on the ear, which is believed to be a microsystem of the entire body. Points can be stimulated with very fine acupuncture needles, or small beads secured with adhesive tape. These ear seeds come in different designs and are suitable for both children and adults.

Moxibustion: is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy which consists of burning dried mugwort over particular points on the body. It helps to increase blood circulation, tonify energy, stimulate the digestive system and boost the immune system. Mugwort is a powerful herb, and has been used externally to turn a breech baby, stop bleeding, or even stop a bout of diarrhea.

Topical Herbs: are plant based and come in the form of oils, ointments, washes and patches that can be used to aid those suffering with eczema, yeast infections, bruises, joint and muscle pain, sprains, acne, and many other conditions.
